Buitengewoon was born from necessity. As the team behind AfriCamps, South Africa’s glamping pioneers, we required more than 200 wood-fired hot tubs for our luxury tents, yet nothing available met our standards.
Plastic tubs were never an option. We needed something more refined, aesthetically considered and aligned with the luxury outdoor experience we had created. So we designed and built our own.
In doing so, we introduced South Africa’s first wood cladded, coil heated, wood-fired hot tubs, combining craftsmanship, efficiency and timeless design in a way the local market had not yet seen. The result is a beautifully proportioned, exceptionally comfortable wood-fired hot tub crafted from high-grade vinylester resin and finished with real wood cladding.
Today, more than 200 units operate daily within our own demanding hospitality environments – a true test of durability and performance. After years of proven reliability at our camps, and countless guest requests to purchase the very same tub they experienced at AfriCamps, Buitengewoon evolved into its own brand. Since then, we have proudly supplied private clients and lodges across South Africa.

We design with intention and build for endurance – anything less simply isn’t us.
Ergonomics: Designed from the outset around the human body – every curve considered, every angle intentional, every detail purpose-built.
Durability: True quality reveals itself over time. Ours is built with the highest-grade resins and materials available – including marine-grade vinylester technology – selected for strength, heat stability, and lasting performance.
Natural Materials: The ritual of soaking begins with water and fire. We complete it with honest, premium materials like solid wood – chosen to complement nature, not imitate it.
Uncompromised Craft: Made by hand by skilled artisans who understand that true luxury lies in the details – not in how loudly it announces itself.

We design for spaces where detail is everything: boutique lodges, design-forward homes, private retreats hidden between mountains and sea.
Places where you go to feel again.
Our materials are chosen with care – ethically sourced timber, marine-grade finishes, and natural wood-fired heating that honours the earth as much as the experience.
Because sustainability isn’t a feature. It’s a foundation.
It started with a simple intention: to create something beautiful and lasting. What I didn’t expect was how deeply it would resonate. Today, seeing others embrace the ritual – the fire, the warmth, the slowing down – is what gives the work its meaning.
